Early Childhood

In our dreams, we'd love to walk with each young learner through our Early Childhood Centers so they can feel the warmth and creativity of those special places at JIS. At least we can stop here to express our anticipation to the kids we'd love to meet. Click above to discover our thoughts toward each new student, and feel free to read them to your youngster as you eavesdrop.

The Early Childhood program serves children in Early Childhood I and II who range in age from 3 to 5 on both Pondok Indah and Pattimura campuses.

Structure

Levels and Classrooms

The Early Childhood program is divided into two levels: EC I and EC II. Children belong to classroom groups with a teacher who is assisted by a host country Teacher's Aide.

EC Schedule

PIE and PEL operate on a six-day cycle. These days are indicated on a calendar which is supplied to all parents on a monthly basis. This enables parents to plan for each day.

Hours

Children in Early Childhood 1 start school at 7:30 am and are dismissed at 10:30 am.

Children in Early Childhood 2 start school at 7:30 am and are dismissed at 12:00 pm.

Starting August 2011, children in Early Childhood 1 and 2 will share the same schedule and finish the day at 12 noon.

Of Interest

What clothes will I wear to school?

JIS has a dress code, but no uniform. When outdoors, children in EC are required to wear a sun hat for UV protection.

How will I get to school?

The school offers a bus service in association with the Blue Bird Company. This service is available to and from school.

What will I eat at school?

Students should bring a healthy snack brought from home.

Our Early Childhood program at JIS immerses children in an atmosphere of wonder, care, exploration, and growth, and it isn't long until their love of learning grows from the inside out.

The EC academic program is based on The Creative Curriculum ® for preschool, a comprehensive early childhood educational system that has been shown to promote cognitive, physical, social/emotional, and language development of children.

Young children learn best through direct sensory encounters with the world, rather than through abstract and formal academic procedures. The program is supported by qualified, committed adults who guide young children in their acquisition of knowledge and their development of content, skills and attitudes.

Four Areas of Development for Early Childhood Students

Social/Emotional Development

  • Achieving a sense of self
  • Taking responsibility for self and others
  • Behaving in a pro-social way

Physical Development

Cognitive Development

  • Learning and problem solving
  • Thinking logically and symbolically

Language Development

Children are all about people, places and things at this age. They love learning through relationships, books and age-appropriate technology in special spaces. Here are some of the resources Elementary students and parents value most in EC.

Faculty

Faculty are the most influential learning resource for students in the EC Program. They are a highly qualified and multicultural team, carefully selected for their ability to make a positive impact on young student lives and learning.

JIS Academy

JIS Academy offers some after school activities for children in early childhood such as ballet, Tae Kwon Do and soccer.

Special Events

Throughout the year children are given the opportunity to engage in special events that are integral to our program. These include:

  • Indonesia Week
  • UN Day
  • Earth Day
  • Sports Day
  • Talent Show
  • Book Week
  • Science Night
  • Bingo Night
  • Concerts
  • Spirit Days
  • Other cultural experiences

Many of these events are supported and run in collaboration with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

Children at each grade also leave campus several times a year to go on learning journeys which support the academic program.
