Young learners develop an understanding of their world by testing what they know in a variety of new contexts. Our students benefit from a wealth of opportunities to apply knowledge and to reflect on the results, to develop enduring understandings and to communicate their experiences with others. JIS learners are inspired by the process of learning and they naturally develop skills in experimentation and communication as they learn to value and accept different points of view.

Our elementary teachers have proven expertise in classroom instruction as well as specialty subjects, counseling and support services. Our teachers vary instruction to meet the needs of each learner within the larger classroom setting. There are no streams or labels at JIS.

The curriculum is fully articulated and always developmentally appropriate. The academic focus is on literacy and numeracy, complemented with well-balanced programs in science and technology, social studies, fine arts, physical development and an introduction to Indonesian language and culture. Our students develop understandings and skills that are transferable to their next educational setting and our curriculum meshes well with many national curricula.

Students are introduced to a wide range of co-curricular opportunities, such as after-school activities, community sports and social clubs, in order to explore interests and develop talents that they can enjoy for a lifetime.

Believing strongly in the benefits of the community school, JIS maintains two Elementary School campuses in Jakarta.

Pattimura Elementary is centrally located in the residential neighborhood of Kebayoran Baru. Pondok Indah Elementary is directly adjacent to the Cilandak campus, in the heart of the Pondok Indah residential area in South Jakarta.

Both elementary campuses have been designed specifically for younger learners and each has within its own secure surroundings air-conditioned classrooms, a library media center, a state-of-the-art computer lab, a gymnasium, a theater, science facilities, special rooms for art, music and reading, a soccer pitch, swimming pool and landscaped green space.
